Pool lubricants and some gel type pool clarifiers can add oils to your pool which eventually is trapped in the filter grids. Place the pool filter valve in the backwash position then start your pool pump. Cleaning your de filter involves three basic steps. Backwashing will clear out all the dirt and debris inside your de filter.

The first step in cleaning your de is to backwash. This is the key to cleaning your de filter grids and fingers. Fill a bucket deep enough to submerge the pool filter cartridge in warm water. When the water coming out of your discharge hose is clear shut off the pump and return the valve to its normal position.

Always wear rubber gloves and eye protection while working with muriatic acid. That is the most thorough way to clean a de filter. As you spray off your de filters the run off needs to go somewhere. Add 1 cup of liquid dish soap per 5 gallons of water.

Have a good sprayer that isn t too hard to trigger so your hand doesn t get tired. Step 2 submerge the dirty pool filter cartridge in the soapy water.
